A man arrested alongside 13 robbery with violence suspects in a hideout in Transami area in Embakasi claims he was helping some of them write a proposal to access loans from the Hustlers Fund.

Eric Muthama told a Makadara court that he is a master's student undertaking a degree in project management and also teaches at a college in Nairobi.

Muthama and the other suspects were charged with preparation to commit a felony, which is suspected to be robbery with violence. During the arrest, they were allegedly armed with a toy pistol, 37 knives, six scissors, six pangas and two hammers, which are believed to be used in committing robbery.

They were nabbed on the night of November 25 during an operation following an outcry by members of the public Nine of them were charged with trafficking and being in possession of narcotics totalling 182 rolls with a street value of Sh9,300.

The suspects denied the charges when they appeared before Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi.

The suspects were released on a bond of Sh200, 000 without an option of cash bail. The court ordered for a pre-bail report to be tabled on December 20 during the mention of the case. - Lilian Chepkoech
