Narok brothers die by suicide over stepmother's return

Residents of Kapsilibwa village in Narok South Sub County were today left in shock after two brothers died by suicide in protest of their stepmother's return.

Police said their father Daniel Towert had welcomed back the stepmother whom he had divorced many years ago, and allocated her a parcel of land.

Narok South Deputy County Commissioner Felix Kisalu said the deceased brothers Vincent Kipkorir, 19, and Gilbert Kibet, 17, hanged themselves on a tree at the banks of River Amalo.

“The two bodies were found dangling from a tree on the river banks. Their father Mzee Daniel Towett had accepted back his first wife, whom he had divorced many years ago," Kisalu said.

A police report on the incident that occurred on Friday morning, indicated that the two brothers were against their father's move to allocate a piece of land to the said woman.

Their stepmother had just returned and the two were not happy that the father had allocated her the land.

“They first threatened to kill the whole stepfamily and their father but it appeared they changed their mind and decided to take their lives," said Mr Kisalu.

Further police reports indicate that the two had previous criminal records where they stole in two churches in the area beside being involved in several criminal activities.

DCI Crime Scene specialists processed the scene before moving the bodies to Longisa County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
