The body of the deceased was burnt beyond recognition.

Police in Kisii are investigating the death of a man inside a lodging in Birongo shopping centre.

Kisii County Commander Charles Kases said the fire broke out at around 11pm on January 16 in a bar and restaurant identified as Egesa.

The body of the deceased was burnt beyond recognition.

The police boss also said that there were six people, three females and a male staff, within the business premises at the time of the incident.

The deceased was a resident of Nyansira area, less than two kilometers from the scene.

"We are investigating the incident to establish the cause of the fire. We call upon the community policing to help us with further information to help us curb the rising cases of insecurity in the County," Kases said.

Sources say the deceased had booked a room at the business premises and that the owner had closed the business less than an hour before the fire incident.

One of the Senior Police Officers said they are investigating the proprietor and a female.

The charred remains were retrieved on January 17 at noon and taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral morgue.
