Covid-19: Fear grips Nyamira law courts as ODPP staff test positive

Fear has gripped the Nyamira Law Courts after five out of 11 staffers from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) tested positive for Covid-19.

According to Court Executive Patrick Arati, communication has already been effected by the Registrar of Courts for further directions.

However, Arati said the local administration has organised with the Public Health Department and the County's Disease Surveillance team to conduct mass testing on other court staff who had come into contact with those who tested positive.

"We have organised for every staff to undergo mandatory tests to establish their status," Arati said.

As a measure, the Courts have also suspended physical operations and turned to virtual court procedures.

"We are currently not doing any physical courts and instead, we are utilizing the virtual platform for mentions, rulings and deferment of cases for future dates as we await normalization of the situation," Arati said.
