Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Saturday dismissed talk that herbs
can be used to treat Covid-19.
While giving the daily update in Embu County, the CS
maintained that the virus does not have a cure at the moment but said that those
who wish to present herbal medicine to the Ministry for tests can do so.
“So far no vaccine and no cure has been discovered for
Covid-19. The rest of it is trial and error.
“Maybe it can work but the best thing for them (herbalists)
to do is to present the medicine to the Ministry of Health for further tests,”
he stated.
Asked whether the Cuban doctors who have come into the
country will be paid more, the CS maintained that they will be remunerated just
like Kenyan doctors and are here to assist in containing the situation.
“We are not paying them more. It is a small brigade of 20
doctors and they are here to exchange skills.
“They will learn from us and we will learn from them,” said
Kagwe.
The CS added that there was a shortage of doctors in the
ministry and more will be hired to ensure all patients are attended to.
Kagwe also expressed displeasure at how some politicians and
leaders in government were disregarding Covid-19 rules, describing their
behaviour as annoying.
Earlier on Saturday, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja denied spending
the night in a police cell for violating the Covid-19 regulations.
Through a tweet, the senator insisted that he has never been
arrested, daring those saying he was arrested to produce the OB number.
“Never been arrested. Won’t be. Show me an OB Number,” he
tweeted.
According to a police report, Sakaja was arrested at a bar
in Kilimani area on Saturday morning.
This is after the police were alerted that a number of
people were drinking at the premise.
