The Nairobi City Water and Sewage Company has issued a list of the areas
set to experience water shortage in Nairobi after the damage of Sasumua water supply system.
In a press release,
the Nairobi City Water stated that a massive landslide occurred at Kieni Forest
on Thursday night, May 8, 2020, and damaged the main pipeline which supplies
water from the Sasumua Dam to Nairobi.
As result, several
areas within Nairobi will experience water shortage as the amount of water not
reaching Nairobi is 12 percent of the water supply in the city.
Here are the areas set
to experience water shortage according to Nairobi water;

along Waiyaki Way, Kangemi, Lavington, Westlands, Parklands, M.P. Shah
Hospital, Aga Khan Hospital and ILRI, Upper Hill, Kilimani.

Hospital, Kenyatta Hospital and Community.

<!--[endif]-->University
of Nairobi main campus, Upper and Lower Kabete campus, University of Nairobi

around Kenyatta market, Langata, Jamhuri, Ngando, Rituta/Satelite, Dagoretti
corne, Kawangware.

“The amount of water not reaching Nairobi is 61,000m3 per day (12% of the
city supply) hence the above areas will receive water with low pressure during
the supply day under the water rationing programme,” read the statement.
On Tuesday, the Nairobi water said repairs have already begun and the
temporary reinstatement work expected to be completed by May 31, 2020.
“The work will take 6 weeks at an estimated cost of Ksh.362million. Site
preparation and construction of access road is in progress to facilitate
transportation of materials deep inside the Aberdare Ranges in Kieni Forest,”
read the statement.
