Bomet medics quarantined after coming into contact with suspected Covid-19 patient

At least ten medics have been quarantined after coming into contact with a patient who died showing with Covid-19 symptoms in Bomet.

Bomet Medicals Services and Public Health CEC Joseph Sitonik said the patient died while undergoing treatment at the Longisa County Hospital ICU.

Sitonik said the patient presented herself at the facility claiming she had a heart condition.

The CEC said the patient died suddenly while undergoing treatment. Medics at the facility reported that she experienced breathing difficulties and high fever.

“We have taken samples for tests in Kisii and quarantined all medics who came in contact with her after she exhibited Covid-19 symptoms,” said Sitonik.

The CEC, however, called for calm saying there was no cause for alarm since the tests were yet to confirm if the patient had contracted the coronavirus.

Sitonik at the same time said the surveillance team had been deployed to the rural home of the patient to gather her history and trace other contacts.

“Our Covid-19 surveillance team is also on the ground trying to find out if the woman had received visitors who travelled from hotspots or had travel history,” said Sitonik.

The incident happened as police mounted a search for 24 people alleged to have sneaked into the county from Nairobi.

County Commissioner Geoffrey Omondi said the surveillance team was tracing them as police launch investigations into how they made their way into the county.
