Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Saturday narrated how a group of
people travelled from Nairobi disguising themselves as mourners.
Due to the cessation of movement order that bars movement in
and out of Nairobi, they pretended that there were going for a burial and went
past a number of roadblocks.
When they got to Homa Bay, someone got suspicious and upon opening
the coffin there was no body inside.
All the occupants of the vehicle were taken to quarantine
and one of them, the driver, tested positive, registering the first positive
case in Homa Bay County.
The CS stated that some of the occupants of the vehicle were highly respectable individuals.
During his address, Kagwe also stated that some Kenyans have
been bribing their way out of quarantine zones especially in Mandera.
Kagwe said all those involved will face the full force of
the law. He also cautioned truck drivers against smuggling people in and out of
counties.
This comes as 1115 people were tested and 16 tested
positive, taking the national tally to 262.
Out of the 16, 12 are male and four are female.
Seven more people have been discharged bringing the number
of recoveries in the country to 60.
Two patients also lost their lives bringing the number of
those who have succumbed to the disease in Kenya to 12.
Kagwe stated that the recent outcomes suggest that numbers
are going up and Kenyans need to continue exercising caution.
He also called for self-discipline saying there is no point of calling for a lockdown yet people can ground themselves.
