CS Munya deletes tweet after Murkomen accusation

Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya on Friday, December 13, 2019, deleted a tweet following an accusation by the Senate majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen that the tweet indicated conflict of interest.

The tweet by Munya was aimed at Kikuyu constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Kimani Ichung’wa accusing him of receiving ‘inspirations’ from the Deputy President’s home.

The tweet read, “Ichung’wa is a rent seeker. Let him take his rent-seeking mission to Kiunjuri. Inspirations from Sugoi will not improve the dairy industry”

This was a response to the Kikuyu constituency legislator’s remarks sympathizing with dairy farmers who poured out their milk in protest of low prices and lack of market access.

However, after Murkomen’s intervention, the CS was forced to delete the post.

After his election in 2013, President Uhuru Kenyatta stated that members of his cabinet should not in any way be involved in politics.

With that said, the post by Munya highlighted a conflict of interest that Murkomen was quick to point out.
