Lightning kills two, injures one in Nyandarua

A deadly lightning strike at Kwa Haraka village in Kinangop, Nyandarua county killed two people left one person hospitalised.

The deceased were among a group of people helping move a grader stuck in the mud after a heavy downpour in the area.

The two who died were identified as George Oganda and Abdallah Muraguri.

Oganda was the driver of the graded attached to the government Transport Mechanical Fund constructing roads in Nyakio ward.

The third victim is admitted at Engineer hospital in a critical condition after the Saturday incident.

"The three were among those staff constructing roads in the region. As they were heading back to the site, the grader got stuck. That is when they called for help and suddenly, the lightning struck killing the two on the spot," said Joshua Kariuki.

He said Harrison Githinji, the third victim who survived was taken to Engineer hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia who was inspecting the roads has since condoled with the families.

"It is regrettable that we have lost the two. Muraguri was the coach of Spottf football club while Oganda was the driver of the grader. We will do everything possible to help the families as the county government" he said in a statement.
