Kisumu MCAs barred from kicking out Finance executive

Embattled Finance Executive Nerry Achar (pictured) has gotten a reprieve after a Nairobi court temporarily suspended impeachment proceedings against him.

Employment and Labour Relations Court Judge Maureen Onyango put on hold the implementation of the decision arrived at by the county Assembly.

Ward reps were today expected to convene a special sitting to debate Mr Achar’s fate.

A motion tabled before the House by Kolwa East MCA Steve Owiti levelled several accusations against Achar, including being responsible for declining county revenue.

He was also cited for lacking relevant academic qualifications and for refusing to submit relevant financial reports.

The former Budget Committee chairperson also accused Achar of failing to implement the 2018/2019 Finance Act.

Last week, ward reps unanimously resolved to have Achar kicked out of office. A 16-member committee was formed to investigate his conduct and present their report to the House for debate.

But Achar moved to court seeking three orders staying the impeachment proceedings against him.

His application has been certified as urgent by the court. The matter will be heard on August 12.
