Embu MCAs pass Sh6.6b budget

The county assembly of Embu has passed a Sh6.6 billion budget amid calls for timely release of funds by the National Treasury.

The county revenue basket comprises Sh4.45 billion equitable share of the revenue from the national government, Sh301 million conditional grant to the Embu Level Five Hospital and another conditional grant for compensation for user fees forgone at Sh10.7 million.

Budget and Appropriations Committee chairman Harrison Mwaluko said the county has a local revenue target of Sh900 million. 

In the budget, Sh3.1 billion was allocated to salaries and allowances, representing 46.81 per cent of the total budget.

Another Sh1.23 billion will go to operations and maintenance (18.71 per cent of the total county resources).

A total of Sh2.3 billion will go to development expenditure (34.48 per cent).

The health sector was allocated Sh2 billion.

The education sector received Sh106.7 million for bursaries for needy students in high schools, colleges and universities.
