Arsenal fans on Wednesday night took to social media to express their disbelief after one of their most criticised player’s sizzling form for his country.

Alex Iwobi, who has recently been under criticism by Arsenal fans is now a different man at AFCON and is doing wonders for Nigeria.

The Super Eagles secured a place in the semifinals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt after beating stubborn South Africa 2-1 on Wednesday evening.

Iwobi caught the keen eye of Arsenal supporters after he provided a brilliant assist which led to the opening goal.

The 23-year-old setup teammate Samuel Chukwueze to slot home from close range on the 27th-minute mark before South Africa equalised late into the second half through a Bongani Zungu strike.

Nigeria, however, had the last laugh as William Troost-Ekong saved them from extra time hassle after netting in the 89th minute to seal the semifinal spot for the Eagles.

Iwobi has been brilliant for his country in this year’s AFCON and also netted in his country’s narrow victory over Cameroun in the round of 16 clash that saw Nigeria come from behind to claim victory.

The young Nigerian hasn’t been doing well for Arsenal and managed 35 Premier league appearances with most of them coming as a substitute.

His career numbers seem encouraging though after posting 15 goals, 27 assists in his 147 appearances for the gunners.

Arsenal will be hoping that the youngster keeps the form on return to England as they look to fire themselves back into Premier League contention and the Champions League.
