President Uhuru urges Kenyans to plant trees

NAIROBI, KENYA: The Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Julius Kamau on Friday joined President Uhuru Kenyata, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and State House staff members in a tree planting exercise at State House in Nairobi.

The President called on Kenyans to take advantage of the ongoing rains to plant trees.

Mr Kamau later conducted an aerial surveillance tour of Kathandeni Forest Station in Kirinyaga County, Irangi Forest Station in Embu County, Chogoria Forest Station in Tharaka Nithi County, Ontulili forest and Upper Imenti Forest Stations in Meru County.

These are a part of the larger Mt.Kenya Forest Eco-system, which is the catchment of major rivers like Nyamindi, Thiba, and Kathita amongst others that form the Tana River downstream.

He also visited Karaba Secondary School where he gave a talk on the importance of forests conservation and trees growing to the survival of humanity and urged the youngsters to embrace a tree planting culture.
