Ten minors arrested for smoking bhang and taking alcohol

A least ten minors aged between fifteen and seventeen have been arrested after they were found smoking bhang and taking alcohol in a rental house at Kanu Street.

The minors, students from different secondary schools in Nakuru were arrested alongside three adults aged 18 and 19.

There was one female student among the minors and one (female) among the three adults

Nakuru East sub-county police commander Ms Elena Kabukuru has confirmed the arrests.

"Police raided a house after receiving a tip-off from members of the public and caught the thirteen taking alcohol and liquor," the police boss confirmed.

The suspects are locked at Bondeni police station.

Ms Kabukuru has said the minors shall be arraigned in court and charged with children in need of care and protection.

On the other hand, two of the adults shall be charged with being in possession of drugs and alcohol and selling liquor without a license, while the female shall face charges of loitering.

"Investigations to arraign the suspects in court has commenced," Kabukuru has said.

Parents of the minors are flocking the police station after they heard information about the arrests.

The incident comes a week after a number of students from Moi Forces Academy Lanet, were caught smoking bhang at the school vicinity.

In a video clip that has gone viral, a group of at least ten girls, two dressed in full school uniforms and others in nightdresses are seen smoking bhang as they dance to music from a mobile phone, inside a dormitory.

Investigations on the matter by the ministry of education together with Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is ongoing.
