Police are investigating the cause of a fire incident that burnt down the registry section of ministry of mining in Nairobi.

The cause of the fire that broke out at about 3am Tuesday is yet to be known.

Police suspect arson as the cause of the fire. The fire was still on at 7am.

Fire engines rushed to the scene to contain the fire. Witnesses said crucial documents had been burnt down in the fire incident at the ministry headquarters Transcom House. This affected the entire building as smoke billowed to other neighbouring offices.

Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo said they are investigating the incident.

Traders count losses after fire razed Toi Market.

The incident happened as fire engines fought to contain another fire incident that broke out at the Toi Market, Nairobi.

No casualty was reported but locals say they lost property worth millions. The fire broke out at 3am and spread fast bringing down a number of stalls even as neighbours rushed to contain it before engines arrived. The cause of the fire is yet to be known.

Clouds of black smoke could also be seen billowing from make-shift stalls that were used to store bales of clothes overnight. Another fire broke out at the market in 2014 amid speculation it was arson to grab the land where traders operate.
