It’s one month since police ‘kidnapped’ my hubby — wife

Tolbert Ouma Odhiambo (pictured) has been missing since February. His distraught wife is now accusing police of kidnapping her husband.

Tolbert, a businessman in Nairobi, had just left a supermarket in Ruaka when two vehicles blocked him before bundling him into one of the cars.

A taxi driver who witnessed the incident immediately called the wife, Joyce Njoki, alerting her about what had just happened. The kidnappers drove off, leaving Tolbert’s car engine running.

“I immediately instructed him to switch it off and keep watch of the black Toyota Harrier,” says Joyce.

The mother of one headed straight to the scene, which is not far from their home. The taxi driver who made the call occasionally offers transport service to the couple.

Joyce claims that from what she gathered from those who witnessed the incident, the kidnappers could be security agents. Tolbert was linked to a criminal case involving Lavender Akinyi Ogilo, who was arrested in Ruaka in 2018 in connection with a string of burglaries in Lavington, Kileleshwa and Muthaiga.

It was claimed Tolbert bought some of the stolen items from Lavender’s gang.

According to Joyce, her husband had stopped on his way back home to do some shopping when he was abducted at around 3pm on February 7. The family has visited several police stations and morgues in search of the 39-year-old man.

A report of a missing person was made at Karuri Police Station. The last signal on his mobile phone located the handset at around Kigwara area, along the Banana-Mucatha Road.

“Police should know where my husband is. I found it strange that they arrived at the scene in record time. They were there barely 10 minutes after Tolbert was kidnapped and wanted the car towed even before I arrived,” says Joyce.

Kiambu County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Bernard Nyakakwa, said he was on leave while Central Regional Investigations Officer Danson Diru requested for time to get details of the matter.
