Police officer donates Sh56,000 to man who attempted to smuggle baby from KNH

Boniface Murage when he was arraigned in court for attempting to smuggle his baby from KNH because he could not afford  a Sh56,000 medical bill.

An officer who was in the force that rescued terror attack victims from the  Dusit Attack has donated Sh56,000 to assist a father who attempted to escape from Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) with his baby because he had no money to settle the baby's bill of a similar amount.

Inspector Emmanuel Tammoh from Kangemi, Nairobi, while speaking to the press outside Milimani Law Court, said he woke up early Tuesday morning and went to KNH to clear the bill but was told that the bill was cleared on Monday.

“After that, I proceeded to Milimani Law Courts where I was to meet Boniface Murage and donate the money to him,” said Tammoh.

Tammoh is the head of a Police Camp at Kangemi where he resides with his wife and a young son.

He comes from Narok and he is so passionate about saving the lives of people and helping the poor.

“I have come to help this man not because I am a police officer but because I am a Kenyan full of passion to help people,” said Tammoh.

Tammoh said he was among the first officers to arrive at DusitD2 Hotel that was attacked by terrorists early this year.

At the same time, Tammoh said he has never met Boniface but he was so touched by the story and decided to utilize the little he had saved to help the man.

Tammoh told Boniface to help his family with the money and warned him not to engage in any other criminal offence.

“It is not that we are supporting what he did, but maybe he committed the offence out of poverty,” said Tammoh.

The Inspector added that he has sacrificed a few months’ salaries to help the family of Boniface so that they could start a new life.

He thanked Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe who handed Boniface a 3-month suspended sentence.

Muthoni said that the matter had indeed caused a lot of interest across the board.

“The accused admits that he committed the offence, in mitigation he states that it is his financial status that lead to the commit the offence,” ruled Muthoni.

She said she will consider the mitigation by the accused and since the complainant has been paid, scales of justice should be balanced to both sides.

Boniface said Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has paid the Hospital bill and he would like to thank him.
