Former Bomachoge MP Zephaniah Nyang’wara has died.

Mr Nyang’wara was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2015 and later underwent kidney transplant, which, according to the family, was not successful.

The former MP — who left home for Kenyatta National Hospital on Wednesday morning — died moments after his admission.

His first wife Ann Nyabonyi said Nyang’wara had been ailing for a while, but had travelled upcountry a month ago to attend a funeral. “We have lost a pillar in our family. Life has been hard for us in trying to get proper treatment for our husband,” said Ms Nyabonyi.

In 2015, two fundraisers were held in Nairobi and at his rural home in Bomachoge to help him raise money to undergo a kidney transplant. Nyang’wara had made a public appeal for funds to pay medical bills.

The former legislator, who hails from Magenche in Bomachoge Borabu, is survived by his wives Nyabonyi, Eunice Nyakemba and Teresa Kerubo.

Nyang’wara, a trained accountant, was a member of the Parliamentary Accounts Committee and Parliamentary Investment Committee. He served Bomachoge Constituency for one term; 1997-2002.
