The Government has boosted security in areas that reported inter-tribal clashes ahead of national examinations.

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed yesterday said proper mechanisms were in place to ensure all candidates write their exams in a conducive environment. She said the Government would also set up a mechanism to ensure candidates who fled their homes because of insecurity all write exams.

"We will ensure all our candidates sit for their examinations without any form of interruption," the former Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary said.

Ms Amina said her ministry was working with that of Interior to secure all examination and storage centres. She spoke during a tour of schools affected by tribal clashes in Molo and Njoro in Nakuru County.

Amina also visited Olpusimoru and Olengape primary school in Narok County to assess the security situation of the area.

"We are pleading with communities in areas that have in the past reported cases of insecurity to welcome learners back so that they can write their exams," she said.

She said she was satisfied with preparedness of candidates who will be writing their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
