Standard Golf heads back to the Mountain region tomorrow

The Standard County Golf Classics sponsored by The Standard Group makes a return to the Mountain region as Nanyuki Sports Club plays host to this year’s event for the third time tomorrow.

According to the draw, a sizable field of a 100 plus golfers have been drawn for the event which kicks off at seven in a continuous draw that will be played under the stableford format of play is set to present a memorable golf outing experience.

Nanyuki Sports Clubs’ course tips 6009 yards, with the tough holes to beat on the outward nine being; stroke index one, a par - five, seventh hole which plays 525 yards from the mens' tee-box and 477 yards from the ladies’ tee box.

The green is screened off with trees in front of the tee box. A dog leg right, with out of bounds on either side with narrow fairways and the stroke index three par - five, eighth hole which plays 536 yards for men and 494 yards for the ladies with a dog-leg left, which has an out-of-bounds on its left side.

Only precision golfers may have an easy day out on the course. As one's drive or lay-up, needs to hit the fairways to avoid the unforgiving rough or being condemned to the out-of-bounds.

Several golf clubs are well represented in the draw for play, they include; mountain region sister clubs’ namely; host Nanyuki Sports Club, Nyeri Golf Club and Nyahururu Sports Club among others.

“The fairways are in mint conditions, thanks to the mix of light and heavy rain showers being experienced within our region. The greens are in tip-top shape.” this is according to, David Wachira, the Green Keeper.

“To all those coming for this event, expect a challenging round, the pins won’t be welcoming. I don’t expect crazy scores in the 40’s.” warned David.

Moses Muthoki who plays off handicap 19, currently enjoying good form is one of the main contenders for the top honors’ in tomorrow’s series. He, however, won’t be having a walk on the course, as Peter Mwangi who plays off plus one, has trained his eyes on the coveted top prizes too.

Other are; Club chairman Gabriel Miungi who plays off handicap nine, club captain Sam Muchiri playing off handicap 15 and former captain Jediel Muriungi who plays off handicap six.
