Police are investigating an incident where eight armed men stole unknown amount of money from a petrol station in Oyugis town.

Two were armed with AK47 rifles and were in police uniforms. The remaining six were armed with crude and sharp weapons during the incident.

Two security guards who were manning the petrol station said the men stormed in at 3am and demanded that they be given money.

The guards said the robbers tied their hands with sisal ropes and proceeded to a room where money had been kept.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Marius Tum said they were following leads that could enable them apprehend the suspects.

“The money was from the previous day’s sales but they have not approximated how much it was,” Tum said.

Tum said police officers who rushed to the scene found that the gang had fled.
