Golf Park’s Ashley Awuor and Limuru’s Ken Njenga played out their hearts to claim titles in the 2018 Karen Junior Golf played at the par 72 Karen Country Club in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Playing off handicap 6, Awuor emerged the best gross girl on a five over par 77 gross while handicap 21 Njenga had 96 gross to win the best gross boy title.
Awuor’s victory came after she holed a late birdie at the par five-fifteen hole in the back nine and levelling 12 pars against a mixed a bogey shot on the rest nines.
“I played an easy game and won. The victory means a lot to me. I will continue training harder for the forth-coming tourneys,” said Awuor.
Njenga, who had made a false start with a back to back triple bogeys on the par four-first and the par five-second holes, however managed to roll five level pars against a mixed bogey shots on the rest of both nines to claim the title.
“The course was playing well but this is not good results. I’m happy for the win and hopefully my game will be better in the forth-coming events,” said Njenga.
Handicap 28 Arman Sheikh on 69 nett and home club’s handicap 27 Waridi Maina on 68 nett were the nett winner boy and Girl respectively.
The nine holes none-handicap first tee boy winner was Leigh Mbuthia on 52 gross and the same for girl was claimed Mary Nyambura on 68 gross.
Tajvir Mudher on 54 gross and Karen Anyango on 58 gross were the winners respectively for the nine holes non-handicap on the tenth tee side.
The boy winner for the six mini holes was Ethan Mbogo on 26 gross and the same for girl was claimed by Ruby Njoroge on 30 gross.
The 18 holes daylong event featured 104 juniors under 18 years drawn from across the country with various handicaps.
The tournament was organised by the Junior Golf Foundation of Kenya and jointly sponsored by Toyota Kenya and Getso Consultants in partnership with United States (US) Kids golf. [Maarufu Mohamed]
