11 Egyptians arraigned in Narok Court for operating business illegally

11 Egyptians have been charged with operating business illegally within Narok town.

Appearing before Narok Law courts Senior Principal Magistrate Titus Gesora, the 11 foreigners aged between 19 and 35 years were charged with failing to comply with the terms and conditions to operate business contrary to Section 53(L) of Kenyan immigration Act 2011.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges before them and were released on Sh50,000 bond, Kenya surety of similar amount or Sh50,000 cash bail and deposit of their passports at the directorate of criminal investigations.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Prosecutor David Mwangi sought permission from the courts to take the accused to the immigration office in Nairobi for confirmation of their status in the country.

The court heard that on diverse dates on the night of April 26 and 27 this year at Lenana and Majengo estates within Narok town with intent to violate conditions of their visiting visa were found with 20 assorted items.

The items found with them include cook wares, carpets, jugs among other items which are said to have been selling.

“I am asking the court to allow us to take the accused to the immigration department with escort of the DCI office so that we know how they came into the country and their purpose,” said DPP Mwangi.

The court grated the DPP’s prayers and directed that they be taken to the immigration department.

SPM Gesora however set May 9 this year as the day where the court will converge for directions upon receiving the status report from the immigration department.

The case will however come up for hearing on July 5, this year.
