Women football: Falcons ready for top league

Trans Nzoia Falcons are optimistic of a good as they make a debut in the Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League (WPL) this season.

The team earned promotion from the Division One last season after topping Zone B with unbeaten record and then beat Zone A counterparts Gaspo Youth 2-1 in the Division One play-offs last month.

Coach Justine Okiring says he wants to boost his squad with 15 new players.

“I’m looking for players who are out of school. I hope it will add some depth in the squad this season,” Okiring said.

He said they will stage trials from Friday to Sunday next week at Kitale Show Ground and called on players to show up for the trials.

“We had a good run in our first year in Division One and I hope we are going to do well in the WPL if we make good signings,” he said.

Okiring, a former Harambee Starlets head coach, down played their quest to win the league saying he wants to maintain a firm grip in the top league. He says finishing among the top three is a realistic target.

“Premier league is competitive compared to Division One, but I have confidence in my players and hope that we will end the season in good place,” Okiring said. [Rebecca Jebet]
