Ministry of education has abolished Term Two ‘A’ secondary school ball games starting from this year.
Instead, the ministry has re-organized the 2018 calendar of events for secondary schools, according to a circular issued by the Ministry’s Basic Education Director Robert Masese.

The new calendar was discussed and adopted during a stakeholders meeting, which included officials from the ministry of education and Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA).

There was a stand-off earlier after ministry of education suggested that all the games to be amalgamated and be held within two weeks in second term.

However, the move was opposed by KSSSA saying their events are sponsored by different sponsors with different interests and bringing all the events together will force some sponsors withdrawal their sponsorship.

Brookeside sponsors first term games while Coca Cola firmed are the main sponsors of term two “A’ games with Airtel as official sponsors of second term “B” games.

Masese said some of term two ‘A’ games will be played in first term with the rest spread to second term. Previously, netball, handball, rugby sevens and cross country, heptathlon and decathlon were reserved for term two ‘A’ games.

However in the new set-up, Embu will host the national first term games from April 6-14. Games to be competed for will include basketball, hockey, rugby 15s, swimming, netball and athletics.

According to the revised calendar, football, volleyball, racquet games, rugby 7s, netball, cross country, heptathlon, decathlon and under 16 football boys and girls national games will be held from July 27 to August 5 in Eldoret, Rift Valley region.

East Africa secondary schools games runs from August 14-26 in Kigali, Rwanda. Gulu in Uganda hosted last year’s regional games.

At college level, Eregi has been picked to host the Kenya Teachers Training Colleges national athletics championships from March 30 to April 7. Kenya Teachers Training Colleges national ball games will be at Tarbach Teachers Training College in Rift Valley from May 11-18.

At primary level, Special Schools national games and sports will be held at Likoni School for the Blind, Port Reitz School and Mombasa Secondary School for the Physically Handicapped in Mombasa from April 4-14 while national primary schools athletics championships runs from April 6-14 in Mombasa.

Nakuru will host the national Kids athletics championships form April 18-21 while the national primary schools ball games and gymnastics are scheduled for August 3-10 in Nyeri.
