Four people died on the spot and scores seriously injured in an accident that took place at dawn, Mlima Mazima, near Salama town along Mombasa-Nairobi highway involving a bus belonging to Mombasa-based Deluxe bus service and a truck.
Mukaa/Konza OCPD Charles Muthui confirming the accident said that among the four dead were two men and two women but the driver of the bus and the conductor escaped unhurt.
The bus was headed to Nairobi from Mombasa hit a stationary lorry that had developed mechanical problems.
Following the accident 11 injured passengers were rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital in critical conditions.
Police blamed the bus driver for recklessness disclosing that the lorry had been moved to the road side and life savers placed on both sides of the road.
“The bus driver was not keen; he was driving recklessly because before and after the truck were life savers to warn on-coming traffic,” said Officer Muthui.
The bodies were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary.
The bus wreckage was removed from the scene as police officers launched investigations into the accident.
