National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has taken a swipe at President Uhuru Kenyatta for indicating that he is destroying Kenya’s economy by staging violent demos.

Raila stated on Sunday that the economy is dwindling because President Uhuru and the Jubilee Party tried to steal elections but were caught and stopped by the Supreme Court.

“Kenya is where it is because the President and his Jubilee party tried to steal elections and were caught and stopped, thus putting the country on a path we have never travelled since independence in 1963,” Raila pointed out.

The NASA presidential candidate asked Uhuru to accept that he has caused the trouble and take responsibility for the situation in the country.

“In the days that followed, the President and Jubilee Party have deepened the crisis by pursuing a path whose result has produced nothing but economic collapse everywhere it has been taken,” the former Prime Minister stated.

Raila added that stolen elections and strong man tactics will lead to stagnation and collapse of the country.

President Uhuru had indicated on Friday that violent anti-IEBC protests by NASA jeopardise the country’s economy, destroy infrastructure, derail development and spread insecurity.

“I am telling Raila not to jeopardise the economy because that is what brings the taxes that fund services for Kenyans. Do not let your interest defeat the interest of 45 million Kenyans,” stated the President.

Speaking in Meru town, the Head of State also warned the NASA coalition against further violent demos.

“You can go on with your demonstrations but do not destroy the property of Kenyans. Today a supermarket was destroyed in Kisumu. What wrong did the owner of the supermarket commit? The water supply in Kisumu was also destroyed. Is that the development that the Kenyan people want?” Uhuru asked.

The President also stressed that Raila should forget a ‘nusu mkate’ (coalition government), saying that he should rally his supporters to vote for him in the repeat presidential poll slated for October 26.
