Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o tells top officials to leave

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o has sacked all county ministers and chief officers.

Prof Nyong'o said the action was necessary to ensure that there is a smooth transition as he takes over.

Among those who have been sent home are nine county ministers and 14 chief officers, whom he directed to hand over to directors in their respective departments.

Nyong'o, who was accompanied by Senator-elect Fred Outa and deputy governor Mathew Owili, said the decision was within the confines of the law.

"The contract of the officers ended by the end of the term of the former government and as a result, I am sending them on compulsory leave," he said.

Nyong'o said he would name his cabinet in the coming days to take over from the directors.
