Kakamega man killed uncle to live in his house, witness tells court

A man allegedly killed his uncle to take over his house, the High Court sitting in Kakamega heard yesterday.

The court heard that prior to his death, Lawrence Ashiomo Kamayi had wanted to evict his nephew Humfrey Madede Kamayi from his house at Shishwa village in Kakamega East sub-county.

Edward Atsango, a witness, said Ashiomo had expressed his discomfort living with the accused.

"The accused, who used to operate a boda boda, had been living with Ashiomo for a while," Mr Atsango told the court.

On the fateful day, the court heard that Madede attacked Atsango on arrival at his house.

According to his mother Enlieta Litangi Kamayi, screams were heard from Ashiomo's house a few minutes past 8pm.

She claimed the suspect attacked her son with a jembe, inflicting serious injuries on his back, and also burnt his feet.

"When I went closer, the accused chased me away and I ran to my house for my safety... I could not go back to see what transpired until early the next morning when I found that Ashiombo had died," Litangi recounted amid tears.

Madede, who has been in remand, has denied murdering his uncle on May 1, 2015.

Justice Jesse Njagi said the case will be heard on October 3. [Jack Murima]
