Police are holding a 14-year-old boy after the killing of a high school student in a suspected love triangle.

Kitale OCPD Jackson Mwenga said the boy is in police custody. He is suspected to have hit the 15-year-old on the head with a blunt object after a disagreement.

It is not clear what prompted the fight, but a source said it could have been over a girl. The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Kitale County Hospital.

Mwenga said the suspect was arrested in Kesogon where he fled after the incident. "He is helping us with investigation into the murder before being arraigned in court," said Mwenga.

The victim's father, James Ekoro, 47, said his son had a quarrel with the suspect while they were walking to school.

"I'm told that my son beat the suspect who revenged by attacking him using a club as they walked back home," he said.

Meanwhile, police in Endebess are investigating an incident where an elderly woman died after her house caught fire.

Local OCPD Wilfred Mongere said the deceased was burnt beyond recognition during the 11pm incident.
