A senior detective was shot and injured in an ambush on Tuesday night in Bondo Town.

Bondo Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Aggrey Abwogi was in the company of friends at around 11pm when a gang attacked them.

Area OCPD Paul Kiarie said the suspects ordered Mr Abwogi and his friends to lie down. They also demanded his gun.

Abwogi was shot after pouncing on one of the criminals, who he wrestled to the ground.

The commotion attracted a crowd that managed to arrest one suspect as the rest fled. A pistol was also recovered.

Abwogi was taken to Bondo sub-county hospital where he was treated and discharged.

Reports revealed the bullet did not penetrate his skull and that he was in stable condition by the time he arrived at the facility.

The motive of the attack was not immediately established.

Mr Kiarie said they had already launched investigations into the attack. A manhunt for the assailants is also on.

Meanwhile, residents are demanding the arrest of people behind the murder of a Form One student in West Yimbo.

The body of the Kanyibok Mixed Secondary student was found floating at Anyanga beach two days after he was reported as missing.

Area assistant chief Manase Osuri said they were awaiting a post-mortem report.
