UoN deputy vice chancellor suspended

The University of Nairobi Council has suspended, by majority vote, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration, Bernard Njoroge.

According to a senior university official privy to the development, the council's decision was arrived at on Wednesday last week after a meeting with Prof Njoroge.

Of the seven council members in the meeting, five are said to have endorsed the DVC's suspension while two objected.

The suspension was effective from Friday last week.

"Prof Njoroge was suspended for a period not exceeding six months to allow for investigations. He was also instructed not to interfere with the investigations," said the official who added that Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi, who is also a council member, was asked not to attend the meeting.

Prof Mbithi and his deputy have had long-running management differences that have spilled over to the public.

MPs are currently investigating the management wrangles with both parties separately appearing before the National Assembly Education Committee.
