Governor Hassan Joho has appealed to the national government to work with his government and develop a formula to improve the port of Mombasa.

Mr Joho said both levels of government have common objectives and interests  to ensure Mombasa port services are efficient.

“We want to see how best county and national governments can move towards improving the port,” he said in Kwale on Friday.

Joho (below) said as much as they all want the port to be a world class facility, Mombasa city should also be improved to world class status.

“There has to be concerted efforts that need to be put across so that whatever support infrastructure that requires to be done can be achieved. We are not in competition at all,” said Joho.

The governor spoke on the sidelines of a one-day donor conference at the Swahili Beach Resort, Diani, Kwale County.

Principal Secretary for Transport John Mosonik said the Government was committed to support port infrastructure and transport system, roads and regional connectivity.

“As much as we look at the improvement of the port facility, we should be able to look at the entire transport network of roads and transport services along the corridor,” Mr Mosonik said.
