Senators, CSs ignore devolution conference

Kwale, Kenya: The absence of Cabinet secretaries at the devolution conference organised by the Council of Governors affected the day’s programmme.

Wednesday during the meeting with the private sector, Industrialisation Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohammed was supposed to be a facilitator for Session 11: Private Sector Experiences at the County, but failed to show up.

Mr Mohammed is among other Cabinet secretaries scheduled to speak at the conference.

The conference program showed that Devolution CS Ann Waiguru was among the key speakers during the official opening of the forum to mark one year into devolution, during the morning session.

Others in the two-day programme include Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, Speakers Ekwe Ethuro (Senate) and Justin Muturi (National Assembly), Henry Rotich (National Treasury), Michael Kamau (Roads), Felix Kosgei (Agriculture), Charity Ngilu (Lands), Najib Balala (Mining), Jacob Kaimenyi (Education), Judy Wakhungu (Environment), Amina Mohammed (Foreign Affairs) James Machairia (Health) Davis Chirchir (Energy) and Fred Matiang’I (ICT) and Attorney General Githu Muigai.

Devolution ministries

All the above ministries are key to the success of devolution.

At the same time, senators who include Devolution Committee Chairman Kipchumba Murkomen, Amos Wako, Peter Mositet, Billow Kerrow, Bonny Khalwale, Anyang Nyongo, Mohammed Kuti, Agnes Zani, Godana Hargura, David Musila, Mutahi Kagwe, Naisula Lesuuda and Mshenga Mvita will not attend the conference, going by the senate leadership stand that agreed to snub the function. These Senators are scheduled to speak.
