my life as a prison officer

It has been quite a journey, since I joined the Kenya prisons service in the year 2010 I have seen a lot and also I have been through a lot. First and foremost, I still remember the rigorous training I underwent while at the prisons staff training college. We would start our day at 3 a.m. and we would work throughout till 11 pm when we would eventually retire to bed. It was a tough route I took in my life.

After the nine month initial training I was posted to Nairobi Medium Security Prison where I served from February 2011 to April 2014 when I was transferred to the quartermaster of prisons where I have been working to date. If I say that the journey has been a smooth one, then I’ll be definitely telling a lie. It has been a tough one indeed.
