A 15-year-old boy defiles a 5-year-old girl in Yala

A 5-year-old girl was allegedly defiled by a 15-year-old boy in Yala Sub County. The girl is currently admitted at Yala level 4 hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

According to a human right activist based in Yala who rescued the girl and wants to remain anonymous for security reasons, the 15-year-old boy is said to be a son of a well-known politician in the area. The boy was arrested but later released and is walking scot free. No action has been taken against him. The 5-year-old girl has not gotten justice because of the fact that they are poor and we all know that “Mnyonge hana haki”

When the boy was questioned by police officers while in custody he said that they have been friends with the girl and blamed the girl for insisting to have sex with him but when we questioned the girl, she denied everything the boy said. She said the boy started touching her private parts and forced her to have sex with him.

According to the doctor assigned to the girl, she suffered serious injuries in her private part. The doctor also said that the girl was not infected with any STIs.

When the human right activist tried to question the police on why they released the boy, so many death threat messages were sent to her. She was forced to flee to Uganda and stay there until things cool off. She says police officers are enablers of sexual gender based violence since they are easy to bribe and compromise.

Cases of sexual violence on young girls are on the rise in Yala. Everyday a young girl is defiled, raped or even sodomized. Sexual violence is a violation of human rights and it should be stopped with immediate effect before things get out of control. It knows no boundaries and continues to take its toll against both women and men. It is upon you and me to speak against it and make sure that our daughters don’t become the next victims.
