Man suspected of selling bhang to students beaten

The man was allegedly caught selling bhang to university students at Kimalat trading centre in Isinya

Kajiado, Kenya: A mob apprehended and beat up a middle-aged man who was allegedly found selling bhang to university students at Kimalat trading centre in Isinya, Tuesday.

The suspect was cornered by angry villagers who were searching for illegal brews. He was seized after one of the students identified him as the one who has been selling drugs to them. On searching him, he was found with a number of sticks hidden in his pockets.

Led by the area Assistant Chief Agnes Sagia, the locals also stormed various dens and recovered illegally packed liquor ready for the market.

"This is a shocking revelation that students from a nearby university regularly visit this small town to purchase bhang," said Ms Sagia.

She appealed to parents to monitor their children, saying most of them engage in bad activities.

Illegal brews were found hidden inside two rental houses, after a tip-off from neighbours.

"This shows that the Government's Nyumba Kumi initiative is becoming a reality. I urge residents to continue giving information," she added.

Most of the brewers evaded arrest but three woman were arrested together with five revellers.
