NYAHURURU: There was confusion at Kiandongoro trading center, Ndaragwa, Nyandarua County after a man who allegedly stole a Sh5 worth of Mutura was hacked to death Wednesday afternoon.
His two assailants were afterwards beaten up by an angry mob and later admitted to hospital in critical condition.
The deceased had grabbed the mutura from outside butchery within the center when the owners noticed. The two followed and caught up with him and attacked him with a panga.
According to Nyandarua OCPD Benjamin Onsongo, the man fell on the ground and started bleeding profusely.
"The attackers left him thinking that he had just sustained some minor injuries. It was some moments later that passers-by noticed that the man had succumbed to the injuries," he said.
Onsongo noted that angry residents gathered at the center and decided to strike back beating up the two owners of the butchery.
"They used all kinds of weapons to beat them up demanding an explanation as to why they had killed the man just because he had stolen Mutura," he explained.
He said that police who arrived at the scene moments later found the two men aged 50 and 30 years respectively lying unconscious and took them to Nyahururu district hospital.
He said that they had sustained serious wounds all over their bodies.
He said that no one has so far been arrested as it was a case of mob justice but investigations were on going.
The body of the deceased was taken to Nyahururu district hospital mortuary.
