Anne Adul barred from chairing Kisumu County Assembly sittings

Suspended Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Anne Adul

Embattled county assembly Speaker Anne Adul will not preside over sittings any time soon until the case challenging her ouster is determined.

Wednesday, an Appellate Court sitting in Kisumu extended temporary orders barring her from exercising her roles as head of the assembly.

This follows two applications filed by Adul and the assembly which were later consolidated to be heard together.

A three-judge bench comprising Justices David Maraga, Gatembu Kairu and Daniel Musinga extended the orders of stay until the determination of the appeal.

Earlier, the court had issued a 60-day temporary injunction against Adul which was to end on May 25.

"The previous injunction orders will expire on 25, a date by which this appeal will not have been heard and determined. In the circumstances, we extend the orders of stay until the determination," the bench said.

During that period, a member of the speaker's panel is to chair sittings.

MCAs impeached Adul in October last year, after the relationship between the two parties went sour.

A previous application filed by the county executives claimed that the relationship between Adul and the assembly was not a classic employer-employee relationship.
