Gunmen kill Nakumatt supermarket manager

Nairobi, Kenya - Gunmen kill a manager in charge of internal audit at Nakumatt supermarket headquarters along Mombasa Road in Nairobi before escaping without stealing anything from him.

James Karanja was driving home along a narrow path Thursday evening at about 6 pm near the supermarket when gunmen on a motorcycle struck.

Witnesses said the gang of three first smashed his car window before they told him they had warned him and later shot him in the head and chest, killing him on the spot.

They later sped off from the scene of the attack. Police are investigating the killing of Karanja who joined Nakumatt last year and has been auditing different departments of the supermarket.

Since then, he has had some staff fired and some jailed due to embezzlement of funds as he received several threats.
Police say they are yet to make an arrest over the shooting. The body was later taken to the city mortuary.
