Kenya’s CID officer in charge of forensics passes on in Nairobi

NAIROBI: A top CID officer, Maurice Amatta,who was in charge of forensic department at CID headquarters in Nairobi has died after a short illness.

Amatta died in a city hospital after he drove there complaining of stomachache. Police say he died of natural causes Thursday.

Amatta, 59, was one of the leading officers trained in forensic investigations and was instrumental in setting up of the forensic laboratory at CID headquarters that is under construction.

CID director Ndegwa Muhoro mourned the death and described Amatta as one of the best detectives the police service had.

"Amatta was one of the detectives we had and was dependable at large. We mourn his death," said Muhoro.

He had served in various sections including the Flying Squad.
