Raped minor in need of urgent specialised attention

Kisumu, Kenya: A minor is nursing injuries at Kisumu East District Hospital after she was raped by unknown assailants.

The 10-year-old girl who has been hospitalised since last week is seeking to be transferred to Nairobi Women's Hospital for specialised treatment.

The girl left home in Kasagam at 7pm on the fateful day to visit her aunt who resides a kilometre away but did not return home several hours later.

Nine hours later, the girl was brought back home by a good Samaritan who is said to have found her lying in the neighbouring market.

Dr Paul Mitei, a gynaecologist who attended to the minor, says the girl sustained several injuries on her track and head.

''Since she has severe head injuries, we are worried she could be having deep-seated injuries which could damage her brain. This can only be confirmed with specialised machines and we need to move with speed,'' he said.
