Women carjacked and robbed Sh100 by hooded gunmen hours before Muchai attack

Nairobi, Kenya: Police were on Sunday investigating an incident in which two women were carjacked by four hooded gunmen from Westlands area, hours before the attack on Kabete MP George Muchai, his two bodyguards and a driver.

The women were carjacked by four gunmen who had an AK47 rifle and three rifles and later dumped at Kamandura area on the way to Narok.

And after they were dumped, the gunmen drove off with their car but abandoned it in Ndeiya area. They robbed the women of their mobile phones and Sh100 that they had.

The women were later picked up by a good samaritan from Kimandura to Tigoni police station where they made their report.

According to statements they made to police, the gang attacked them in Westlands and took over their salon car before they were bundled into the back seat and pinned down.

They told police they at one point drove up to Baricho Road where one of the gunmen walked into a club and came back with drinks. From there, they took Waiyaki Way towards Kikuyu and later diverted towards Narok route where they abandoned the women.

Nairobi Area head of CID Nicholas Kamwende said they have not found any link between the carjacking and the attack on the MP.

"We cannot link it to the attack on the MP and his aides but we are investigating. The ladies were not harmed in the ordeal," said Kamwende.

But other informed officers believe the attack on the women was part of a wider plan to distract police as the killing of the MP and his aides went on.

"We really doubt the whole thing. How can such gunmen just steal Sh100 and two mobile phones from the women," said an officer who asked not to be named.
