Kwale, Kenya: After holding a successful forum in Lamu County last month, the Jumuiya Ya Kaunti Za Pwani (JKP) leadership will now hold a major meeting in Voi in Taita-Taveta tomorrow.
The meeting will involve the six coastal governors, speakers of the county assemblies, members of county assembly (MCAs), county secretaries and county executives at the Voi Wildlife Lodge.
“The meeting will bring together the county legislators and the executive to brief them on the progress and road map for actualisation of JKP,” said Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, who is the current chairman in Kwale yesterday.

Currently, they are also preparing a bill to be tabled in all the six county assemblies to come up with a law on the planned economic integration and implementation of other JKP programmes.
The enactment of the bill will be followed by public meetings to drum support for JKP for three weeks before its launch later in March.
“We want to anchor the JKP on sound legislation in all the six counties. As the pioneer governors under the new dispensation, it is our duty to build a solid foundation to protect our unity,” said Mvurya.
On Sunday, the stakeholders will hold a public rally at the Voi Stadium before touring the Bachuma Livestock Holding Grounds - a flagship project in Taita Taveta County.
The rally follows another one held in Lamu recently.
Last week, while speaking at education function in Msambweni, Mvurya denied claims that JKP is a political tool created by CORD to fight Jubilee in Coast.
“I ask you all to support this initiative that has created political heat, which is not even our agenda,” said Mvurya. Of the six governors in Coast, only Issah Timamy (Lamu), is not affiliated to CORD.
Mvurya said there have no plans convert JKP into a political party because Coast has a sour history with regional parties.
“We have had parties like KADU, Shirikisho, among others, which did not go anywhere,” he noted.
