Governor wants State to act on defiant teachers

Governor Captain Ali Roba has asked the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to effect its decision on striking teachers who have sworn not to return to Mandera and other North Eastern Counties in the interest of time and the welfare of students.

He said teachers' refusal to report back following the killings in December was unconvincing as terror attacks are not a preserve of Northern Kenya. "How come people have not asked to be transferred from Lamu because of the Mpeketoni attacks, for instance?" he posed.

He said the county would within two weeks replace the striking teachers with locally sourced ones if the impasse continues.
