Governors Isaac Ruto supports teachers on transfers

BOMET: The Council of Governors has backed teachers calling for their redeployment from insecurity prone counties of Northern Kenya.

The council's chair Isaac Ruto said the government should not force teachers or other civil servants to the region considered insecure but should employ residents of the region who are comfortable.

"The National Government should redeploy teachers who have camped outside Teachers Service Commission urgently rather than forcing them to go to the place they feel they are not secure," Ruto said Wednesday in Bomet.

He said to avert such incidents in future, county governments should be given money to recruit locals and those willing to work in the regions.

Regarding the Narok case, Ruto said rule of law implies that every citizen is subject to the law including lawmakers themselves – who led the demo that led to lose of lives and injuries.

He warned law enforcement officers against harassing and beating up members of the public or confiscating their property.
