Tharaka Nithi farmers trained on new farming technologies

Over 300 farmers from Tharaka Nithi and Meru counties have been trained on new technologies geared towards increasing production.

Speaking at the Bio Intensive Agricultural Centre at Kaaga in Meru, Martin Gikunda, the centre’s director, said the empowerment of farmers is expected to bolster the fight against poverty.

“This training is geared towards empowering small scale farmers. We have trained them on greenhouse farming, dairy farming, fish farming, pig rearing, poultry and how to increase their crop harvests,” he said.

Meru County Agriculture Chief Officer Kinge Manene said farming is big business and should be supported. “We are building their capacity to grow high value crops in small areas,” said Mr Manene.
