Vihiga family mourns two brothers killed in Mandera quarry attack

VIHIGA COUNTY: A family in Kapsawaro village, Tambua location in Vihiga County has been left reeling in shock following the Mandera massacre where two brothers perished in the deadly attack.

The family received the saddening news of the deaths of the two brothers on Wednesday morning after being informed by a family member who works in another quarry in Mandera.

Shem Mudoga, 43, and David Mudoga, 39, perished and left family members at home having to carry the brunt of their cruel deaths.

“We are shocked beyond imagination. We don’t know what we should be doing. We are in the dark,” Rael Mudoga, 89, the mother to the departed brothers, told The Standard.

Rael said the two have in recent times complained that security in the region was continuously deteriorating.

Shem moved to Mandera in 2005 and was joined by his brother three years later, and the two have been sustaining their family members back at home since then.

Their surviving brother, John Mudoga, 59, who lives at home, said the deaths are a double blow to their family from a humble background as they do not know who will take care of them.

He requests the Government to help evacuate his son, Joel Ogeri, who is currently at the military base in Mandera, to return home safely.

“Apart from helping us bring the bodies back home for burial, we plead with the Government to assist our son who is still in Mandera come home. I fear for his life as cases of insecurity have been rife,” he says.

Shem is survived by two children and a wife who stays in Nairobi, whereas David had not married.

Vihiga County mourned the deaths of seven of its residents who perished in the midnight massacre that claimed 36 people on Tuesday a few days after burying two other victims over the weekend that perished in the bus attack.

“It is unfortunate we continue losing our citizens in such brutal ways, yet the Government is mandated to provide security for each individual. It is barely a week since we buried two victims of the attack,” said Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi.

Agoi condemned the killing of the innocent people and asking the Government to make radical changes in the whole security team to improve on the efficiency of protecting its people.
