First Lady set to launch oxygen plant in Siaya

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta will tomorrow launch an oxygen manufacturing plant in Siaya dubbed "Hewa Tele".

The plant based at the Siaya County Referral Hospital can serve at least 6,000 patients in a month.

The project has been jointly established by General Electric Foundation and the Centre for Population Health and Development as part of a public-private partnership initiative that has also involved the Siaya County government and the national government through the Ministry of Health.

GE Foundation President Jay Ireland, who has pledged to improve medical facilities in other counties, will attend the event in Siaya tomorrow.

Hewa Tele is part of the Millenium Development Goals project's Objective 8 in the Millenium Cities strategy.

The project will be replicated across more counties to increase oxygen supply in the country. This will enable district hospitals supply oxygen at affordable prices to health facilities in the surrounding region.

Mrs Kenyatta will be received by local leaders, including Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga.

The First Lady has been at the forefront of promoting healthcare services through the Beyond Zero campaign.
